Facts about a Thesis Statement

A thesis statement is one of the most important parts of the content that a student will have to write as part of his assignment. Universities have certain guidelines that the student will have to follow, and he will have to include various aspects in it as required by the supervisory committees. This statement in a way can be compared to the opening remarks made by a lawyer in his argument.

The statement enables the student to tell the reader what to expect from the rest of the project. The student explains as to what are the things that he aims to prove; what are his theories and what is his main hypothesis. The student also needs to explain what the research methods he plans to use are, and how his analysis will prove the validity of his hypothesis. It sets the platform for the project in totality so that the reader is not confused even before he gets to the main portion of the report.

Many researchers take controversial positions in their thesis. They often dispute some previously known findings. They have to explain this clearly in their opening statement. Otherwise, the supervisors will take a negative view of the project from the first page itself.
